How we check
Halal Scotland is an independent guide to places where all the meat is halal. It's not a list of restaurants with a few halal dishes.
What we need before a place goes on
- The place says it itself. A halal statement on its own website, menu, Instagram or Facebook, or its own description on a delivery app. A halal logo on its own page counts. For shops, describing itself as a halal butcher or halal meat shop counts.
- Or a certificate. For example from the Halal Monitoring Committee (HMC) or the Halal Food Authority (HFA). Chains count only where their own statement covers every item, or every branch.
- No pork. If a menu lists ham, bacon, salami or pepperoni without saying it's turkey, chicken or beef, the place stays off until we know.
- Open now. We check for closures, new owners and renamed shops.
Directory sites and reviews help us find places, but they're never enough on their own. If anything is unclear, the place stays off until we can confirm it.
Alcohol
Every card shows one of four labels: No alcohol, Bring your own, Serves alcohol or Alcohol not checked yet. Use the alcohol-free switch to see only places confirmed as alcohol-free.
Spotted a mistake?
Places change hands and menus change. If something here is wrong, or you know a place we've missed, tell us and we'll check it.
